Maha Shivaratri Significance 2021

There were 365 festivals a year at one point in Indian culture. In other words, every day of the year they used to find an festivalfor celebrating . The 365 festivals have been connected to different life causes and purposes. Vijay Shri and certain life phases, such as seed, plantation and harvesting of cultivated crops, were related to various historical developments. For all stages and all circumstances, we had a festival. But Maha Shivaratri 2021 significance is distinct.

Churning of the sea

Sea churning certainly brought forth everlasting nectar, but it also created a poison. The poison had the power to destroy the world, but it could be destroyed only by Lord Shiva. The poison was held in his neck by Lord Shiva. The poison was so potent that Lord Shiva experienced a lot of pain and his throat got very pale blue. That’s why Lord Shiva is considered to be ‘Neelkanth.’ The narad muni advised Lord Shiva to be waking all night long to the medication. Thus the Lord Shiva watched over word.  The gods played numerous dances and music to enjoy and to awaken Shiva.Lord Shiva blessed them all with their devotion during the morning. Shivaratri is a celebration of the incident that Shiva has rescued the world from. Since then, this day devotees easily.

The ritual

Lord Shiva is consecrated in many respects on this day. Water and milk: jalabhishek. The temples reverberate with the bells of “Shankar ji ki jai.” Three or seven times rotate the Shivling and then pour water or milk into the Shivling.Early in the morning, devotees, young people and older men who go to the traditional Shivalinga Puja and pray to the Lord in the temples of Lord Shiva are inflicted. Devotees bath in holy places like Ganga or (in Khajuraho Shiva Sagar) in sunrise, or any other holy water spring. These are purifying ceremonies, a vital part of all Hindu festivals. After the holy bath, clean clothes are worn and devotees bring a pot of water for Shivalinga bathing to the temple.

Six items have to be included in Mahashivaratri Puja according to Shiva Purana:

Shiva Linga’s Abhishekam with water, milk and sweetheart.

The soul is washed by plum or vine; the Shiva linga is added with the Vermillion paste after the bathing. It is a virtue;
Fruit representing longevity and desire satisfaction;
Incense burning, riches, yield (grain);
A lamp that is conducive to knowledge and betel renders worldly pleasures a symbol of satisfaction.

Indian Central

There are many Shiva followers in Central India. The Mahakaleshwar Temple (Ujjain) is the Lord Shiva’s most venerated Temple where the major Shiva congregations come on Maha Shivaratri day every year to worship. In Jeonra, the Math Temple in Seoni and in two other locations named Tilwara Ghat in Jabalpur, the celebration features a great religious fervation. Millions of people in Damoh district live on this day in Bandakpur Dham.

Kashmir

This is Kashmiri Brahmins’s biggest festival. The marriage of Shiva and Parvati is celebrated in every household. It begins three to four days before the Mahashivaratri festival and goes on for two days.

In south India

In every temple in Andhra, Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Telangana, southern India Mahashivaratri is widely celebrated.
